One Chic Mama

play date, date night, play in the park
This post is written by fashion contributor, Cami!

So, I must start this post by saying that I am not a mother.  Although I have not experienced motherhood firsthand, I have spoken to many mothers, and helped dress a few too.

I think the most important thing to remember when picking “mom clothes” is that comfort, mobility and versatility do not have to be bland or matronly.  When it comes to materials, look for options that do not require dry cleaning, are wrinkle-resistant, and durable.

I've put together two “mom looks”.

First, is “Mom at the Park”:
play date, date night, play in the park
For this look, I started with a basic, straight-leg jean – I would recommend sticking with cuts that allow you to move and bend over without falling out.  I topped the jeans with a simple cotton tank – you can substitute this with a short, mid or long sleeve shirt depending on your preference and the season.  Now, if we stopped there, the outfit would be basic, but a little boring; so I have added a few fun touches with a printed bomber jacket, printed flats, some sassy sunglasses and a trendy clutch.  This outfit will have you looking chic and on-trend, and will also allow you to comfortably run around with the kids.

I call my second look “Play Date to Date Night”:

If you have seen/read any of my previous posts, you are familiar with my love of dresses/skirts.  I think dresses and skirts can be very mom-friendly when executed correctly.  I think the biggest concern when choosing dresses or skirts as a mom-on-the-go is length; I love the idea of a maxi dress for a play date with the kids.  Maxi dresses are easy to throw on and go, and you can get up and down easily without being concerned about overexposing yourself.  I think topping a maxi dress with a denim jacket is a fun way to get a little more coverage without sacrificing style.  Pairing the dress with some espadrille wedges helps pull together a great spring/summer outfit.  I finished the look with a fun, embroidered tote (you can pack everything you would need for a play date AND date night) and some bright sunglasses.  With this outfit, you can look fabulous all day, and transition seamlessly to a date night.
