Two Fantastic Movies That Teach Kids About Peace

Pocahontas and The Jungle Book
It is so easy for me to overlook the value of teaching peace in my home.  I often overlook it because it seems impossible.  The world is so crazy and scary that I just want to hide my kids from it instead of address it.

I was talking to a friend last week about the world we live in.  It only seems to keep getting worse and not better.  After talking we both came to the realization that world peace is not what we should be striving for.

We should be striving for peace in our own homes and families.  That is where the real change can happen.  I loved that.  I wanted to show my girls in the form of a movie what peace looked like so I started thinking about movies that teach kids about peace.
The Jungle Book and Pocahontas
I found two that I think work great.  One of them is for older kids.  My little girls freak out if they even walk past remotely scary movies.  As a parent you can make that judgement call.

Pocahontas/Pocahontas II

As I put together this list I just wrote down Pocahontas because it shows how Pocahontas establishes peace between her people and the settlers.  Her dad (the chief) even gave a peace declaration.  Although, you don't want to teach your kids history using this movie I think it teaches peace in a great way.

Only Pocahontas was on my list, but I also think Pocahontas II shows peace in great ways too.  We have both DVD's and I love to show them both to my girls.

The Jungle Book

This movie actually has a rock called Peace Rock.  How perfect is that?  This is the movie that I can't show my girls.  Sher Khan is too much for them.  So remember that you know your kids best.  If they can watch it though it is great.  Peace Rock is established during the water truce because everyone was allowed to get water without worrying about being eaten by the other animals.

Also, Akela lets his own man cub go back to the man village all because he wants to establish peace in the jungle.  He is willing to sacrifice so much to have peace.  Also, Mowgli in the end helps establish peace between all the animals and it is quite beautiful to show this in a movie.

Do you have any other movies you would add to this list?
