Happy Through Trials: Post-Partum Anxiety is Real2

1.  Stay in the present.  This one is SO VERY important.  If I can give one piece of advice from anyone dealing with anxiety or even depression for that matter it is to stop thinking about the past and all the stupid stuff you have done yesterday, and weeks, months, and years prior.  Also, worrying about the future is so silly.  There is nothing that worrying does, but to cause anxiety to become so high (I know from experience) I read a quote once that said, "If you are depressed, you live in the past.  If you are anxious, you live in the future.  But, if you are at peace, you live in the present." -Lao Tzu   I love it!  It is so true and that is why it is so important to stay in the present.

2.  Take care of myself.  This can honestly be as simple as taking a shower and getting dressed for the day.  Sometimes as moms we can go all day without getting dressed.  Especially as young moms if you only have a baby or a child that is not in school yet.  I notice that I am so much happier if I can get ready for the day and take care of myself.  This also includes making sure I eat.  I tend to be a stress "starver" and so I need to make sure that I eat.  When I eat I need to eat good foods that give me energy not suck it away.  This can also extend into exercise as well, but I say the very first step is getting ready for the day.

3.  Talk.  Sometimes when I am anxious/depressed the last thing I want to do is talk.  However, if I do start talking then I feel so much better.  The big thing is to talk about my worries and have other's be there to support me.  However, it can be really hard to stay positive when I feel so anxious.  I try and talk when I know that I cannot completely bring the other person down.
