Valentine's Day Tea Party for Kids

Valentine's Day Tea Party for Kids
As a little girl I LOVED having tea parties.  I had a TON of small glass tea sets and I loved them all.  I never thought I would have girls.  (Girls don't run in my husband's family)  So I never thought I would have the opportunity to through a tea party.

However, I have two girls and I am so excited to be throwing a Valentine's tea party for kids.  They are inviting all their cousins.  I am including the boy cousins as well.  It will be more feminine of course, but hopefully the boys won't mind.

Although I am not doing it for a couple more weeks I still put together a mock party to show you what it will look like.  My girls and I are so excited!  I want to do a tea party yearly and I thought what better holiday to do it around than Valentine's Day!  I will probably switch it up different years, but this year it will all be about love.

I have mentioned this so many times this year, but this year has been a very hectic year...basically since June.  I feel like I can't catch my breath, but I still LOVE throwing parties.  So I don't want to stop doing something I love.  However, I did have to make it simple just to keep my sanity.

I was provided product from Oriental Trading in exchange for a blog post.  No other type of compensation was received.  All opinions are my own.

So I bet you can't guess where I went first to look for supplies to make this more simple?  Yep!  Oriental Trading.  They make it simple and still so fun and not lacking in the happy department.

I made my invitations and got them sent out about 3 weeks before the date.  I feel this is a great timeline because it isn't too far in advance to forget, but at the same time there is time to get it scheduled in before something else comes up.

I loved how the invitations turned out.  I cut it out on my electric cutter.  It was SO SIMPLE.  I have a TON of scrapbook paper so it didn't cost a thing...other than ink.

After I sent out the invitations I got started on the party favors.  I loved filling the bags from Oriental Trading with candy from them as well.  So simple and the kids will love it.  What better party favor from a tea party than sweet treats?

I must mention here that after the kids eat they will make "Valentine's Cookie Magnets" that I also got from Oriental Trading.  Then they can slip their finished craft into the same favor bag that the treats are in.

I like to have an activity going at the beginning of the party while everyone waits for the guests to arrive.  I am doing this color by number that will be really fun.  Even the young kids that don't get this entirely can still have fun coloring.

I am going to have the kids play Valentines Bingo in addition to the craft as activities after they eat. I am not going to have any prizes with the bingo game so that way no one feels left out.  Everyone will leave with a party favor.

The great thing about a lot of the decor is it can be put up weeks in advance because they hang from the ceiling.  So they aren't in anyone's way.  I wanted it to be totally kid friendly.  So I set it up in my girl's playroom.

The paper lanterns, the tissue paper poms, and the "LOVE" burlap banner went up weeks before the party.

I put a neutral table cloth under the plastic pink table cloth since the pink is so see through.  Next I added the burlap runner to the table.  Then I started adding the details.  I love how the gold heart plates look stacked on top of the pink circle plates.  I wanted the kids to have water as one drink option and then I made a punch for the "tea".  I will put the punch in their straw tea cups.  I thought this was best since we had some toddlers coming to the party.  Once they are older we can be a little more fancy.  Positive to using these cups: the kids get to take them home as a party favor too!

For the food I am keeping it really light.  I am making heart shaped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.  I am having strawberries drizzled in chocolate.  Then of course there will be heart shaped sugar cookies and cake pops.  And don't forget the drinks!

It will be a fun memory for these cousins to remember.  I am excited to be throwing it and enjoying watching them be kids.  That is what Valentine's is all about right?  Making memories and being with the ones you love?
