Christmas activities are so fun to do with kids. There are so many things that you can do outside of your home. There are family and friend parties, visits to Santa, Christmas shopping, going to see lights around your neighborhood or a display somewhere, if you are by snow then there are lots of activities such as sledding, building a snowman, and skiing that you can add to your list.
However, sometimes entertaining the kids INSIDE can be hard. I wanted to do a craft with my two year old daughter and I knew I wanted it to be a Christmas tree craft. I had seen Christmas tree crafts made with strips of paper and I had all sort of ideas to make it great when I thought why not make it a learning activity too.
My daughter is learning her shapes and so I thought it would be great to match the shapes with each other and when you are done you have a tree! She loved it. She LOVES matching and I love that she is learning. So it is a win-win.
This craft is so simple, but you will feel good after you do it with your kiddos because you will do something with them that won't make you go crazy. Just print out the printables (and maybe cut out the shapes depending on your child's age) and let the kids do the rest.
Supplies you will need:
Hannelore wanted Candy Clause to watch |
Steps to make this craft:
- Print out the printables above
- Cut out the colored shapes
3. Let your child match the colored shapes to the shapes on the grey tree.
Singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star while I'm taking the picture. (Her favorite song) |
4. Stand back and admire their work!

Your daughter is adorable and this craft is genius! Not only is it holiday themed but kiddos get to practice shape recognition and matching! I love activities like this because I feel I'm being a better parent by helping them learn and be festive.
Pressing print right now! My son will love doing this when he gets home from school!
This is just adorable. I taught Kindergarten and this would be an excellent activity during the Holiday season. My son is a little too young for cutting, but I'm sure he would love helping me glue on the shapes. Great idea!
Such a cute idea to use the shapes! And she's a baby doll!!
Such a great idea. I think I will be doing this with my little ones tomorrow.
Your little one is suuuuuper cute! I wish mine had the patience for this! #Countdown2Xmas
I agree. That is why I wanted to do it. For some reason us moms feel the need to multitask so that is what I did with this project.
Yay! I hope he enjoyed it! I would love to see a picture if you want to send it to me. I love seeing others enjoy my printables!
My daughter is too young for cutting. She doesn't believe she is, but she is. However, she loved everything else.
Thank you! I sure love her. :)
Yay! I hope they enjoyed it. If you took any pictures and want to share them I would love to see them. I love seeing others enjoy my printables!
I do have a patient child, but my nephew is not patient and he LOVED this too. So maybe yours is you just don't know it. :)
